Waffles for Breakfast

This is at Corti Bros, where the girls snoozed during the shopping run. I picked up some quince paste, from Argentina.
I made waffles with raspberries and whipped cream for breakfast. The girls looked at it, but decided to have their Enfamil instead. Later I went for a bike ride through William Land park, where the hordes of barbecuers are out in force. It feels like its going to rain, being kind of overcast and humid though. Disturbingly, our neighbor came over this morning and told us his house had been broken into yesterday. The city has a 13% unemployment rate, and our area is not totally idyllic suburbia, so we'll have keep our eyes open, doors locked, and cats on guard.

The girls scheming away.
I had to take the pets in for a checkup, so dropped the girls off at my mom's, where her dauchshund attempted to slobber all over the twins. He was thwarted, and started whining, earning him a banishment to the patio.
Sleep is contagious, it seems.
My mom has quite the flower garden in her yard. We stopped at Corti Bros. today and picked up some things to grill for Memorial Day. The holiday weekend is actually not in honor of our Weber, but to remember the fallen servicemen who paid for our current peace and prosperity. We have supped well from the table of freedom, and are grateful for prior sacrifices. One of our life goals is to see the resting place of J's great uncle (grandmother's brother) who shipped out to Italy during WWII, and died there during the fighting at age 22. In that era, many soldiers were buried near where they fell, unlike now, where our dead are brought home quickly.

My sister got the girls little head to toe outfits that make the babies look like odd little superheroes. Not the best picture, since you can not see what I am talking about, but here's one of them above.

Yesterday was a Costco run, where we filled up the cart with diapers, formula, cat litter and cat food. Sometimes it seems like our entire lives revolve around hungry, pooping 8 lb creatures. Although the other night we did get out to see a concert by Straight No Chaser, an a cappella singing group, who has become a hit, via a YouTube Christmas carol that went viral a year or two ago.

On another music note, I am really enjoying Serena Ryder's new album. All the songs are good, but this one is particularly great.

First visit to dim sum

We took the girls out for dim sum the first time, although they didn't partake of any tasty steamed dumplings, and just snoozed away ignoring the onlookers. Meribel above has started batting at the plastic hanging items, which is sort of like a pinata for babies, well except without the candy, or the bat.
This is Kniefiekin ('nosy cat' in svenska) who has discovered the Indian silk coverlet for the master bad, and decided to make a nest out of it, and is surprised that his Sunday nap has been disturbed by a photographer, looking for colors and patterns.

Sacramento hosted a bike race today -- with Lance Armstrong rolling through -- but we dodged the low level traffic barricades (its not as vexing here as Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC) and stocked up speciality groceries at Corti Bros. Afterwards, I grilled a few red snapper filets on the Weber for supper (a little too dry) with a new spice rub from Williams Sonoma. I think this is case where grilling a whole stuffed fish is better than putting filets in the basket.

Mothers Day Pictures

This is Meribel, in her chartreuse party dress.
This is Ilsa-Courchevel in her pink party dress.
This is their proud Aunt, who got a quasi mothers day card from the terrible two as well.

The pets weren't feeling as charitable to everyone, and sulked upstairs, decrying the shallow commercialism of Mothers day.

Also the duck pond at the park

We also went by the duck pond, where I took this goose picture - at full optical and digital magnification. The water was pretty foetid, so we didn't feel like getting too close. The girls are growing and seem healthy so far.
